August 2024 – Prayer Update

The main prayer points are summarised below:

• Please pray about the general situation in Malawi and northern Mozambique.  After the devastation of Cyclone Freddy in 2023 and the poor harvest this year due to the El Nino effect, few households have sufficient resources to last until the next harvest in 2025. Please pray that the Lord provides for his people.  Pray too for wisdom for the mission as we work with our partners in these challenging circumstances.

• Praise God that our Field Director Simon Chikwana is back in Malawi. We are thankful that he is back to work, but we do ask for prayer that he would remain healthy. 

• Please pray for the bookset conferences being held at Chikwawa and Thyolo in southern Malawi at the end of August and the beginning of September.  These provide Bible teaching on a range of key topics and equip pastors and elders with resources for gospel ministry.  Let’s pray that every person attending grows in their faith and is equipped to teach sound doctrine in their churches. 

• This period also marks the summer conferences for the Zambezi Evangelical Church’s Fellowship of Youth and Chiyanjano Cha Amayi otherwise known as Women’s Fellowship.  Please pray that many come to faith in Christ at these conferences this year and also that God’s people grow in their faith as disciples. 

• The synod elections for the Zambezi Evangelical Church in Mozambique were held at the end of July and new office bearers were appointed to serve fior the next five years. Please pray that these new leaders will serve in a Christlike manner with wisdom and humility.

• It’s a period of change.  Let’s give thanks for Mike Beresford’s period of service as ministry as he steps down as Mission Director and for wisdom and strength for Mike McCabe as he leads the mission in the future.  The mission is an important stage in its life and we are wanting to discern from God how our role might change in the years to come.  We would really value your prayers about these possible directions of travel as we seek God’s will for our future role and approach.
